Mojio today announced it has an agreement in place with AT&T allowing Mojio’s open connected car platform to connect to almost all vehicles worldwide. 

Mojio says AT&T’s global SIM will provide “borderless roaming” for vehicles with Mojio’s OBD device plugged in.

“There is tremendous opportunity in connecting cars already on the road today, so working with companies like Mojio makes perfect sense,” Chris Penrose, senior vice president of Internet of Things at AT&T Mobility, said in a statement.

Mojio sells its device on its own website and on Amazon for $150, which includes one free year of service. After that the connection runs $5 per month. AT&T and Mojio announced their initial partnership in September 2014. 

AT&T’s agreement with Mojio comes on the same day Verizon launched Verizon Vehicle, an after-market connected car product and service. Verizon’s service costs $15 per month ($12 per month for each additional vehicle) but features two-way communications with live support and other extras like travel discounts.

Mojio’s platform is open to partners and developers who want to build applications for the connected car. It launched in November 2014.
