Yahoo! has three of the top 10 mobile Internet sites that Americans access with their wireless handsets, according to the Telephia Mobile Internet Report.
Telephia says Yahoo! Mail is the most visited site by mobile consumers, while Yahoo! Weather and Yahoo! Search were No. 9 and 10 respectively. In terms of categories, e-mail and weather sites were the most visited by mobile users, with sports third.
Telephia also says 81 percent of the phones used by people who browse the Internet use the xHTML-MP protocol that allows enhanced Web browsing. The research company says the leading phone browser in use today continues to be the Openwave browser, with 27 percent market share. It is followed by Motorola, 24 percent; Nokia 13 percent, Access NetFront, 9 percent and Teleca AU, 6 percent. The Microsoft browser is used in 3 percent of the handsets.
