There’s a lot of chatter this week about just how many Pixel smartphone Google may or may not have sold this week. Based on downloads of the Pixel Launcher app called out by Ars Technica, Google appears to have surpassed the 1 million mark.

Additional reports this week that Google hired a prominent former Apple chip developer have spurred speculation that Google is looking to build its own processors and set itself apart from competitors. But if Google is looking to take a serious crack at Apple and dominant Android-based manufacturer Samsung, it has a lot of ground to cover.
