WirelessWeek - October 23, 2007

Apple has confirmed that it is working with Salesforce.com so that the company's applications will work on the iPhone. Apple did not give any further details.

Interop Technologies, a provider of advanced wireless technology solutions, announced that MetroPCS has agreed to purchase the Interop Over-the-Air Device Management Solution 3.3 for commercial deployment in all of its operating U.S. markets. MetroPCS, selected Interop's OTA 3.3 solution because it enables quick, efficient device activations for new customers and provides accurate, large-scale roaming list updates for subscriber handsets. Interop Technologies also announced that it has signed an agreement with AdaptiveMobile, a mobile provider of unified customer protection for individuals and enterprises, enabling Interop to distribute AdaptiveMobile software to wireless operators around the world. Under the agreement with AdaptiveMobile, Interop Technologies will help operators protect underage subscribers against mobile Internet content that their parents consider inappropriate.

Azimuth Systems, a provider of wireless engineering test equipment, announced that the company has partnered with AT4 wireless, a global supplier of testing solutions for wired and wireless technologies, to add MIMO channel emulation testing for Mobile WiMAX products to the lab's extensive testing capabilities. Designed from the ground up as a MIMO test solution, Azimuth's ACE 400WB WiMAX Channel Emulator is purpose-built for testing the key technology differentiators of Mobile WiMAX.

Zed has announced plans to increase its focus in the United States by merging the operations of the existing Zed USA with 9 Squared. 9 Squared was acquired along with the acquisition of the MonsterMob Group in February 2007. The combined entity will launch a number of new Zed-branded community and entertainment applications that are currently successful outside the U.S. market. Brian Casazza, co-founder and CEO of 9 Squared, will lead the new Zed operations as CEO of Zed USA.

Wells Fargo announced that it is adding a texting component to its mobile banking services. The texting application service will be available to consumer and business clients and allow browser-based and text-based account access. Users can text commands, such as "bal" for balance, "bal all" for all account balances and "act" for most recent account activity.

Firethorn Holdings has named former Rod Dir as its COO. Dir was previously COO at Cincinnati Bell and Powertel. "Mobile banking is the most exciting and emerging development in the financial and wireless industries today," Dir said in a statement. "I believe strongly in the leadership team and its vision for Firethorn, its go-to-market strategy, its fully integrated services and support model as well as the company's exceptional technology." Firethorn recently partnered with Verizon Wireless to bring mobile banking solutions to Verizon's customers.

Bango introduced its Boosted Web services API that helps mobile site builders to deliver Bango features to their customers' sites. The services also will be available to users of site.mobi, the dotMobi site-building tool powered by mobiSiteGalore. In related news, Bango launched its "ilovemobileweb" campaign aimed at raising awareness of the mobile Web with consumers. The campaign's charter supports the goals of providing open access to the mobile Web for every user, choice of content and services for consumers, easy pathways for fixed Internet publishers to move to mobile and more standardization of devices and development platforms.

Amobee Media Systems is ad-funding CTIA Wireless I.T. & Entertainment's official mobile site, running Oct. 22 - 25. By accessing wap.wirelessit.com from any mobile phone, attendees will have access to the event's program, keynote schedule, daily news flashes and general information.
