Mobile video optimization started as a singular focus on reducing traffic on the network but has shifted to two distinct requirements. While the savings angle is still attractive to operators who have an all-you-can-eat data offering, others are leveraging optimization as a means improve the user experience. This paper will explore how video optimization technology can be intelligently used to reduce the peak throughput generated in mobile data networks, and how QoE-focused techniques for contextually selective video optimization are the key assets in finding balance between savings and QoE.
