Study Asks What’s Wrong With Mobile Video
By Evan Koblentz
WirelessWeek - March 28, 2008

A new survey from Bamboo MediaCasting bluntly asks, “What do you think is apt to be the most frustrating part about viewing video on a cell phone?”

The survey went to 1,000 consumers in the United States; 51% of respondents said they expect mobile video subscriptions will be too expensive.

When asked to cite the most frustrating aspects of mobile video other than price, 46% said it’s bad image quality, 27% answered slow loading times, 17% think it’s just too complicated to bother with and 10% felt the available content is too limited.

Bamboo’s pollsters also found that women, senior citizens and type A personalities are most concerned about image quality; men are far more concerned with limited content choices; and teens just want the video to load fast.

Bamboo’s own mobile broadcasting product, SilverStripe, will be re-released as a white label version for carriers and service providers at the CTIA Wireless show next week in Las Vegas.

France Telecom already is using SilverStripe, as are carriers in Belgium, Poland and Slovenia, officials said.  Bamboo is looking into enterprise applications for mobile video that could run on BlackBerry devices, they added.
