Mobile community solutions provider Upoc Networks has unveiled a wireless
gateway designed to assist North American carriers in the delivery of
third-party content.
In conjunction with the announcement, Upoc said Lagardere Active North
America has signed up to have Upoc deliver text-messaging services. Lagardere's
wireless services include vBlast voice mail, BlingTones ringtones, American
Photo wallpaper and Dating & Connections chat applications. Lagardere said
it selected Upoc as a partner for its knowledge of the mobile marketplace, which
will come in handy as it works to expand its wireless reach.
Following the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, Upoc helped
AT&T Wireless host two chats with U.S. athletes, one with all-around gold
medalist gymnast Carly Patterson and another with gold medalist swimmer Michael
Phelps.
With the current economic climate, wireless operators face shrinking marketing budgets and reduced consumer spending.
Globally, the credit crunch is very much alive, and operators will be tightening their belts into the foreseeable future by putting off capital purchases.
