AT&T Rolling Out Wi-Fi-Enabled Push-to-Talk Feature for iPhone

AT&T today announced a new iOS app for its business customers that will enable push-to-talk (PTT) features on the iPhone 4S and 5. The service will run over AT&T’s network but will also operate via Wi-Fi, which should provide improved in-building coverage for the service.

AT&T Bumps Upgrade Wait From 20 Months to Two Years

AT&T has extended the waiting period for upgrades on phones from 20 months to two years. In a blog post Sunday, the company said the new upgrade policy will apply to new contracts and any existing contracts ending March 2014 and later.

Report: NSA Collects Data From AT&T, Sprint, Google, Apple and More

After yesterday’s public reveal of the National Security Agency’s (NSA) demands for Verizon customers’ data, more information is coming out suggesting the NSA’s casting a much bigger net. The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the NSA’s operations, reports that the same initiative targeting Verizon data is also collecting similar information from AT&T and Sprint.

AT&T has sold $564 million of its shares in America Movil (AMX), a Mexico City-based telecom owned by billionaire Carlos Slim. Bloomberg reports that AT&T lowered its stake in AMX by about 7.5 percent, taking it to 9 percent ownership, still the second-largest for the company behind the Slim family.

Verizon Smartphone Sales Grow on Windows Popularity

Aio’s website lists four different rate plans. Basic, Smart and Pro all offer essentially the same service except that Basic ($40) throttles HSPA+ data after 250 MB, Smart ($50) throttles it after 2 GB and Pro ($70) throttle it after 7 GB. In addition, a $15 Tablet plan offers 250 MB of HSPA per month. Extra gigabytes of HSPA run $10 and unlimited international calling plans start at $10.

Both AT&T and U.S. Cellular have confirmed April 16 as the date when they’ll start accepting pre-orders for Samsung’s new flagship smartphone. AT&T has set the price at $249 with a two-year contract while U.S. Cellular has yet to reveal pricing details. Neither carrier has set a release date.
