Qualcomm Outs General Availability of LTE Broadcast SDK

During his keynote at Qualcomm’s annual Uplinq developer conference, CEO Steve Mollenkopf said network operators are using the LTE Broadcast SDK in combination with Qualcomm’s middleware in order to build applications. He added that 30-plus developers are working with the SDK today.

T-Mobile Offering Unlimited Data for Poaching Customers

T-Mobile today announced that customers who “rescue” subscribers from AT&T, Sprint or Verizon will earn one year of free unlimited data from themselves and their friend. Beginning next week, subscribers who port over their number to T-Mobile and an existing T-Mobile subscriber will earn unlimited LTE or, if they already have unlimited data, a $10 monthly credit for 12 months.

Carrier aggregation is only one component of the emerging LTE-Advanced feature set but it’s received the most attention so far. Maybe that’s because it’s more fun to say than Relay Nodes but more likely it’s because of the phone-melting downlink speeds it’s capable of producing. South Korea’s SK Telecom earlier this year successfully stitched together three LTE bands (one 20 MHz and two 10 MHz) and was able to support speeds up to 300 Mbps.

Bluegrass Cellular Announces Timetable for LTE Network

Bluegrass Cellular will complete its LTE rollout by late next year the company announced in a press release today. Bluegrass lit up its first markets back in November of 2012, which was made possible through its participation in Verizon's rural LTE program.

Analyst Poll: Nokia 2Q Margins Headed South

Of the 18 analysts who gave their rating on Nokia stock, Reuters reports that eight were positive, seven negative, and three neutral. Nokia is up against a rising Ericsson, which despite curtailing LTE rollouts in the United States, still managed to beat second-quarter expectations for revenue and margins. 

Ericsson 2Q Beats Street, Posts $394M Profit

Looking forward, Ericsson said that its modems business will start generating sales by the end of the year, as one of its modems will be featured in smartphones and data devices. Ericsson also said that a number of key contracts and a better business mix will lead to higher sales in the second half of the year.
