LG Exec: Company Not Making Next Nexus Phone

LG’s European vice president Kim Wong said his company isn’t planning on making the next Google Nexus handset. Speaking with All About Phones, Kim cited LG’s wish to push its own version of the Android operating system as a reason to move away from the Nexus, which runs stock Android.

LG Electronics Inc. said Wednesday its first quarter earnings shrank to less than one tenth of the year-earlier quarter as its TV business languished, masking a recovery in mobile phone sales. It forecast higher profit for the current quarter as new smartphone models and a revamped lineup of TVs hit shelves in global markets.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korean panel giant LG Display Co. said Monday that it logged a small profit in the first three months of the year, reflecting slackening orders from its key client, Apple Inc., during a typically slow period for consumer electronics.

LG Acquires WebOS From HP

The Korean electronics company just acquired HP’s now defunct mobile operating system and plans to implement the platform in connected home appliances. With the deal, LG gets the source code and an HP team of engineers who work with WebOS, as well as patents HP acquired when it bought the operating system from Palm.

LG to Release Full HD Smartphone in S. Korea

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — LG Electronics Inc. said Monday its new smartphone with a full high-definition screen will go on sale in South Korea this week before hitting shelves in Japan in April. The Optimus G Pro smartphone features a 5.5-inch screen that packs over 2 million pixels, or twice as many as smartphones with HD screens.

Report: Apple Edges LG in OEM Market Share

Fully 18.5 percent of U.S. mobile subscribers used Apple devices, according  to ComScore's new three-month study, which covers the period from August through November 2012. Apple barely edged out LG, which took 17.5 percent in the same study. Motorola and HTC both saw small share declines, dipping to 10.4 and 5.9 percent, respectively.
