HTC Set to Get “Loud,” Retire Its “Quietly Brilliant” Tagline

HTC hasn’t been “loud enough” and it plans to turn up the volume on its marketing efforts, starting by retiring its “Quietly Brilliant” tagline. Speaking with the Wall Street Journal, HTC CMO Benjamin Ho said the company’s new approach will be “bolder.”

HTC today announced its unaudited consolidated revenue for February totaling $385 million, marking a 44 percent drop from the $685 million it posted in February 2012. As rumored, HTC today unveiled its new flagship smartphone, The One, at press events in New York and London. The phone was shown off along with an update to HTC’s Sense UI that turns the phone’s homepage into a live-updating series of panels called “Blink Feed” that will be fed by thousands of content providers like CBS, ESPN and more, according to Engadget’s live blog of the announcement.

HTC's Q4 Profit Drops 91 Percent Year-On-Year

HTC posted a Q4 net profit of $34 million, down 91 percent from the $379 million it put up for the same quarter in 2011. According to Reuters, 18 analysts' average predicted a net profit of more than $50 million for the quarter. The Taiwanese handset giant's sales fell far behind the iPhone and its Android OEM archrival, Samsung.

Report: Apple Edges LG in OEM Market Share

Fully 18.5 percent of U.S. mobile subscribers used Apple devices, according  to ComScore's new three-month study, which covers the period from August through November 2012. Apple barely edged out LG, which took 17.5 percent in the same study. Motorola and HTC both saw small share declines, dipping to 10.4 and 5.9 percent, respectively.
