HTC’s newly released unaudited third-quarter numbers show a net profit of about $21 million from $1.37 billion in quarterly revenue. The new numbers dipped below HTC second-quarter unaudited results of $72 million in net profit on quarterly revenue exceeding $2.17 billion. Despite the sales decline, HTC still beat analysts’ profit estimates for the quarter.

HTC Makes Windows Version of Flagship One Phone

NEW YORK (AP) — HTC will start making a version of its flagship HTC One phone with Microsoft's Windows software inside. HTC says it developed the new model at the request of Microsoft, which has been trying to boost its Windows Phone system. The company will continue to make an Android version of the One, as well as other Android phones.

HTC Turns 2Q Profit

HTC’s unaudited second-quarter figures released just before the holiday showed a net profit of $72 million on quarterly revenue exceeding $2.17 billion. The profit beat analyst estimates of around $68.7 million, according to Bloomberg, which attributed the small victory to HTC One M8 sales and reductions in marketing costs. The second-quarter profit follows a first-quarter net loss of $62.17 million.

HTC Posts $62M 1Q Loss, Puts Hope in M8

HTC Corporation today released unaudited results for the first quarter of 2014, posting a net loss before tax of $62.17 million on $1.08 billion in total revenue. Net operating losses hit $67.7 milion. This latest quarter's losses come after HTC reported a new profits of $10 million in the fourth quarter of last year, which was largely attributed to the company's sale of headphone maker Beats.

Could New HTC One Tempt iPhone Users?

It looks like there could be some iPhone users considering a switch over to the dark side, namely Android. New numbers from CompareMyMobile.com, a UK shop that offers money for used phones, found that iPhone valuations were way up after HTC announced its new HTC One M8.

HTC today announced its new One smartphone at events in New York and London. The phone will see U.S. release at AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile within the first few weeks of April. But starting today, customers will be able to buy the phone online from all the carriers mentioned. Verizon will have the phone available in-store starting today.

Ciao Mobile is a new MVNO entering the U.S. today on Sprint’s LTE network and it’s kicking things off with an intriguing offer of unlimited LTE for $10 a month. The Ciao Mobile Lite plan packages unlimited LTE data, talk and text for a ridiculously low price but there’s a catch: users will have to let a “targeted mobile app” kick out advertisements on their lock screen.

Nokia, HTC Settle All Patent Litigation

In a press release Monday, Nokia and HTC announced that they have settled all pending patent litigation between them, and entered into a patent and technology collaboration agreement. According to the release, HTC will make payments to Nokia and the collaboration will involve HTC's LTE patent portfolio, further strengthening Nokia's licensing offering. 

Report: HTC Exec Says Things are Looking Up

Chang Chialin, chief financial officer for HTC, told Bloomberg Thursday that the coming year is looking much more promising than the dismal 2013 HTC recorded. Just how bad was it? HTC's sales dropped 30 percent in 2013 and the company's shares fell a whopping 53 percent, reporting its first annual net loss ever. 

Google, Cisco Sign Patent Cross-Licensing Agreement

Google and Cisco have signed a “long-term” patent cross-licensing agreement. The companies said the agreement will increase the value taken from their respective portfolios and, more importantly, diffuse some of the risk for future litigation. Google’s new agreement with Cisco comes shortly after the company entered similar agreements with Samsung and Ericsson related to GSM, UMTS, and LTE standards for both networks and handsets.

HTC Takes Hit in U.K. Patent Ruling

A London judge Tuesday ruled that HTC has infinged on Nokia patents, according to a report from Bloomberg. Judge Richard Arnold ruled that chips contiained in HTC's One smarpthone were also in violation of Nokia's proprietary technology.

 I find giant phones hard to carry and use, but I'm well aware that many people like the bigger images and text they offer. These so-called phablets, with screens measuring about 6 inches diagonally, are nearly as big as the smallest tablets. Unlike tablets, they can make phone calls over cellular networks.
