NEW YORK (AP) — HTC will start making a version of its flagship HTC One phone with Microsoft's Windows software inside. HTC says it developed the new model at the request of Microsoft, which has been trying to boost its Windows Phone system. The company will continue to make an Android version of the One, as well as other Android phones.
The news comes as HTC tries to capitalize on the favorable reception to its flagship smarpthone, the HTC One M8. Reviewers consistently give HTC's high-end smartphones high marks for design and quality. Still, the company has been unable to message their products here in the United States in the same way Samsung has done.
HTC’s unaudited second-quarter figures released just before the holiday showed a net profit of $72 million on quarterly revenue exceeding $2.17 billion. The profit beat analyst estimates of around $68.7 million, according to Bloomberg, which attributed the small victory to HTC One M8 sales and reductions in marketing costs. The second-quarter profit follows a first-quarter net loss of $62.17 million.

TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — Taiwan's Fair Trade Commission on Thursday fined the local unit of South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. for undermining the reputation of Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corp. In a notice on its website, the consumer protection body said that Samsung had organized an Internet campaign in violation of fair trade rules to praise Samsung smartphones while slamming those of HTC.
Things continue to deteriorate for the HTC. The Taiwanese OEM has reportedly halted production at one its four main manufacturing plants, according to a report from Reuters. The factory being closed accounts for at least a fifth of total capacity, and Reuters said that closing has put pressure on HTC's cash flow.
