FirstNews Briefs: AT&T, nTelos, TextNow, SIMalliance, Canvas, Globe Telecom

AT&T is offering new features to its BYOD offering for businesses. Specifically, AT&T said enhancements to its AT&T Toggle offering will make it easier for administrators to manage mobile devices and give end users more flexibility. As part of the new offerings, AT&T is adding Box cloud storage and file management and promises something called "Seamless Transition", which will allow employees to switch between personal and work modes on their devices without entering a PIN code.

nTelos Wireless today announced that it is continuing to expand its 4G LTE service area, and will include access to 4G LTE high-speed data in existing service plans without an up charge. 4G LTE data services are now available to more than 2.8 million people across the region. Cities and communities with 4G LTE services in operation include Waynesboro, Staunton, Richmond, Norfolk, Williamsburg, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Hampton, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, Chester, Chesterfield and Short Pump, Va., as well as Beckley and Bluefield, W.Va.

TextNow Wireless, an all-IP mobile phone service, has just released an upgrade to support Wi-Fi to 4G LTE and Wi-Fi to 3G cellular hand-off for voice calls. This upgrade enables TextNow’s users to initiate calls utilizing either a Wi-Fi or cellular network and then switch between the two without fear of the call being dropped or a decrease in quality. In addition, TextNow Wireless has just added the Galaxy S4 to its list of mobile devices. 

Following annual elections for two of its six Board seats, SIMalliance, the global, non-profit industry association which works to simplify secure element (SE) implementation to drive secure mobile services, confirms its Board of Directors for 2014-15. The Board members appointed to the two rotating Board seats, which are open to all SIMalliance members and voted for by members present at the association’s Annual General Meeting, are: Alencar Nunes da Silva Junior, Telecom New Business, Products and Solutions Superintendent at VALID, and; Michele Scarlatella, Central Marketing Director, Incard Division, MMS Group at STMicroelectronics.

Today Canvas announced that Globe Telecom, a mobile telecommunications company in the Philippines, has selected Canvas’ cloud-based software service for a mobile business offering that enables Globe enterprise and small and medium-sized business (SMB) customers to transition from paper processes to mobile apps with features that include GPS functionality, image capture, bar code scanning, e-signatures and API integration.
