U.S. Cellular Adding 1200 New LTE Sites in 2014
U.S. Cellular Tuesday announced significant plans to continue expanding its LTE footprint in 2014.
In partnerhsip with King Street Wireless, U.S. Cellular will add more than 1,200 LTE cell sites in 2014 and expand existing LTE service in 13 states.
The regional carrier said in a statement that by the end of 2014, more than 93 percent of its customers will have access to LTE speeds.
Specifically, the expansion will target Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and North Carolina, while also bringing additional 4G LTE service to areas in Iowa, Illinois, Maine, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.
Michael S. Irizarry, executive vice president and chief technology officer for U.S. Cellular, said the network expansion will bring LTE speeds to areas that other carriers ignore.
The news comes after U.S. Cellular on Monday announced that it will pay up to $350 in ETFs for new customers that switch from another carrier.
