4G chipmaker Sequans Communications S.A. announced that two of its device manufacturing partners in China, Datang Mobile and DareGlobal, have been awarded contracts to provide Sequans-powered TD-LTE end user devices to China Telecom for the operator’s commercial launch of TD-LTE service beginning in Q2. Both devices are single-mode TD-LTE CPE units that will provide China Telecom customers with internet access at 4G speed. Datang Mobile is one of China’s leading TDD system and equipment suppliers, and DareGlobal is a leading provider of broadband mobile terminals.
Brightstar Corp today announced that it has completed the previously announced acquisition of the Commerce and Services (C&S) division of Tokyo-based SoftBank BB Corp. (SBB), a leading distributor of information and communications technology (ICT) hardware and software products and mobile accessories in Japan. The new company has been named SoftBank Commerce & Services Corp. (SoftBank C&S) and becomes a subsidiary of Brightstar, effective April 1, 2014, and it will remain headquartered in Tokyo. The acquisition is expected to grow Brightstar's presence in Japan and increase the company's revenues by $3 billion on an annualized basis.
The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) has launched the Infrastructure Applications Group (IAG), a new WPC workgroup dedicated to driving adoption of Qi in hotels, restaurants, sporting venues, and other everyday locations. The IAG's charter members include ChargeSpot, ConvenientPower, Devant, HTC, IKEA, Leggett & Platt, Nokia, TDK, Texas Instruments, and Verizon Wireless.
