Three Offering Carefree Roaming in the U.S.
U.K. operator Three announced Wednesday that it will offer its customers free talk, text and data roaming in the United States.
According to a press release, Three is extending its "Feel At Home" promotion to the USA, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Macau. Feel At Home allows customers to use their UK allowances to use data, text, call home and receive calls from home when abroad in certain countries. All told, Feel At Home is now available in 11 destinations around the world.
Dave Dyson, CEO of Three, said in a statement that his company wants people to get the most out of their devices while abroad.
"High roaming charges stop people enjoying their phones while they’re away and Feel At Home is the antidote to that," Dyson said.
As of the third quarter, Three counted 7.8 million total active customers, a 9.7 percent increase since Q3 2012. Three added close to 300,000 net new customers in Q3, which the carrier attributes to promotions like the Feel at Home.
In the U.K., Three's DC-HSDPA network already covers 86 percent of the population, and the carrier will be adding LTE services to the network later this year.
