First News Briefs: Telit, Berg Insight, ALU, BICS

Telit Wireless Solutions, a provider of machine-to-machine (M2M) solutions, products and services, today announced that it acquired ILS Technology LLC (“ILST”). Boca-Raton, FL-based ILST is a leading provider of ready-to-use, off-the-shelf cloud platform services connecting enterprise IT systems to M2M-enabled devices, as well as machines for businesses-critical use. 

According to a new research report by Berg Insight, the installed base of small cell base stations increased to about 4.1 million units worldwide in 2012. Growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 46.2 percent, the installed base is forecasted to reach 40 million units by 2018.

Alcatel-Lucent today announced that it has reached an agreement with Telefónica to become a reference supplier for its 4G LTE network in Spain, in a 4G LTE project that is among the largest in Western Europe. Telefónica Spain selected Alcatel-Lucent to deliver a 4G LTE network overlay. As part of the deal, Alcatel-Lucent will deploy some 8,000 4G LTE base stations and its 5620 Service Aware Manager (5620 SAM). 

BICS, a global provider of wholesale carrier services, today announced its IPX platform has enabled Rogers, Swisscom and SK Telecom to perform LTE roaming over IPX between countries in Europe, North America and Asia.
