BlackBerry Axes 250 Jobs
BlackBerry is laying off 250 workers, according to a report from Bloomberg. The layoffs are part of the struggling company's attempts to cut costs.
BlackBerry's latest quarterly numbers, reported in June, sent shares of the company into a 24 percent freefall.
Perhaps most disappointing were reported smartphone shipments for the company's first quarter of fiscal 2014, which came in at 6.8 million. Just 2.7 million of those smartphones shipped were BB10 devices. BlackBerry said it sold 100,000 BlackBerry PlayBook tablets.
The company managed to shore up its net losses to $84 million, which compared to $518 million in the same quarter last year.
Today's layoffs shouldn't come as s surprise. In its most recent outlook statement, BlackBerry confirmed that it would continue to implement cost savings measures.
