Report: Verizon Eyes Canadian Carrier Wind Mobile
Verizon could be looking to grow its reach to Canada, according to a report from Bloomberg.
Verizon is reportedly looking to purchase one of the smaller Canadian carriers, Wind Mobile.
Verizon began eyeing Wind Mobile after the Canadian Industry Minister Christian Paradis moved to block Telus's purchase of Mobilicity, Bloomberg reports, citing people familiar with the matter.
Toronto-based Wind Mobile has over 600,000 subscribers but is still dwarfed by the big three Canadian carriers--Rogers, Telus and BCE--which together control about 90 percent of Canada's mobile market.
Verizon doesn't comment on a rumors and speculation.
The news comes after rumors this week that AT&T had made a bid for Spanish operator Telfonica. That report was later denied by Telfonica but would fall in with AT&T's stated desire to find new growth areas overseas.
