Broadcom has announced the BCM4390, a new Wi-Fi SoC for embedded devices. The chip is part of Broadcom's Wireless Internet Connectivity for Embedded Devices (WICED) portfolio. The single-chip design provides OEMs with an integrated, low-power and cost-effective solution designed to inspire a new range of consumer products in the "Internet of Things" market, including weight scales, thermostats, security cameras and more! Broadcom also launched a new Bluetooth SoC, the BCM20732, aimed at enabling a broader range of low-cost, low-power peripherals like heart rate monitors, pedometers, door locks and more to work with Android-based smartphones and tablets. 

Samsung Electronics today announced the Galaxy S4 Mini, a compact version of its bestselling smartphone, the Galaxy S4. The new smaller S4 features a 4.3" qHD Super AMOLED display and weighs just 107g. The Galaxy S4 Mini also boasts powerful performance, equipped with a 1.7GHz dual core processor and supports many of the same features as the Galaxy S4.

Shazam today announced the launch of the Shazam App for Windows Phone 8. The Shazam App is free with unlimited tags and helps consumers discover new music by identifying songs and then enabling them to go on and purchase their favorite tracks from either XBox Music or, if using a Nokia phone, Nokia Music.   Also, with Win Phone 8, TV fans can use the Shazam App to get an interactive second–screen experience with the TV shows and ads that interest them. The app also provides social features with Facebook and Twitter.  

Telit Wireless Solutions, a global provider of machine-to-machine (M2M) solutions, products and services, today announced the introduction of its third generation 2G-cellular module in the company’s xE910 product family. The GE910-QUAD V3 is the company’s quad-band GSM/GPRS Class-10 product for integrators and OEMs starting or upgrading designs going forward. The new module is slated for long-term availability protecting design investments. The product, which also incorporates a TCP/IP stack and Python Script Language interpreter, is capable of running customer applications internally, including internet connected ones. With no additional electronics required for a complete M2M solution, the GE910-QUAD V3 is billed by the company as a platform for bill-of-material (BOM) cost sensitive applications in automotive, telematics, automated meter reading, and other segments.
