Verizon Launches New 3G Prepaid Plans
Verizon Wireless today launched prepaid plans that provide unlimited talk, unlimited texts and 500 MB of data for $60 a month, or for $70 a month, a prepaid customer receives 2 GB of data in addition to unlimited talk and texts.
According to a press release, the plans are available for a variety of 3G-enabled Android, BlackBerry or iOS devices.
During the fourth quarter, Verizon added more than 2.2 million new retail connections, with 2.1 million postpaid and 142,000 prepaid. A the end of 2012, the company counted 5.7 million total prepaid customers.
When asked about how the company views prepaid during a fourth-quarter earnings call, CFO Fran Shammo acknowledged that the company had "made some moves in 2012 around prepaid."
"We will see where we go in 2013, but we will continue to utilize that network to contribute to the bottomline of the company," Shammo said at the time.
Verizon's new plans come in just above no-contract player MetroPCS, which currently offers unlimited talk, text and 2GB of data for $60 per month. T-Mobile, which is awaiting approval of its bid to purchase MetroPCS, recently announced no-contract plans that offer unlimited talk, text and data for $70.
