T-Mobile USA today announced two new B2B solutions that aim to help businesses manage their wireless telecommunications investments. T-Mobile says its new Office Connect unified communications solution and T-Mobile Mobile Device Payment Solution (MDPS) provide alternatives to industry solutions. Office Connect is now available nationwide via T-Mobile’s B2B sales force. Offered as a managed service, Office Connect is available for $9.95 per month per line including hardware, software licenses and installation. T-Mobile’s MDPS is available now.
SIM card annual shipments are expected to rise in 2013 by 5 percent to 5.5 billion units, according to ABI Research. Growth is slowing as markets near saturation and the SIM card becomes increasingly ubiquitous across different network technologies. However, ABI says areas of growth remain with new applications, form factors, and an increasing breadth of connected products. As such, the related market value will grow at a higher rate to $2.3 billion this year and ASPs are forecast to increase slightly over the next five years, according to ABI.
Telit Wireless Solutions, a provider of machine-to-machine (M2M) modules and value-added services, today announced the market introduction of the LE70-868 point-to-point, star-topology, short-range wireless module for the European multi-kilometer range wired-to-wireless network migration market in application areas such as solar/wind farms and agricultural automation. The new module operates on the 868MHz European ISM license-free frequency allowing manufacturers to quickly integrate wireless communication, control, and sensor nodes replacing wire-networked models and fully meeting regulatory compliance on the short-range radio link.
The WiMAX Forum today announced the publication of WiMAX Forum System Profile Requirements for Smart Grid Applications. The document codifies work done on WiGRID, an optimized IEEE 802.16 profile for Utility Field Area Networking applications. The requirements were assembled by the WiMAX Forum's Smart Grid Working Group, which is composed of technical representatives from major electric power utilities, WiMAX vendors and industry experts.
