First News Briefs for January 22, 2013

CTIA today announced several new staff positions, effective today. Athena Polydorou has been appointed executive director of The Wireless Foundation. The new Wireless Internet Development director is Jackie McCarthy, who will be responsible for continuing the department’s work in privacy, mobile financial services and connected health, as well as overseeing action teams working on solutions to specific industry issues. In the external and state affairs department, Matthew Gerst has been promoted from counsel to director.  

Qualcomm Incorporated, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Qualcomm Technologies, today announced momentum for the Qualcomm Reference Design (QRD) program, with the commercial launch of more than 170 devices and more than 100 designs in progress, supporting various network technologies including LTE-TDD, since the program's inception in November 2011. Qualcomm Technologies will share details surrounding this achievement and further expansion of the reference design program at the QRD Summit in Shenzhen, China on January 23rd.

Consumer Cellular is expanding its retail presence within Sears stores nationwide beginning in January. The expansion includes new smartphone and feature phone offerings, expanded color options for feature phones within the existing retail line-up as well as new accessory kits. 

SEVEN Networks, a provider of mobile solutions that manage smartphone signaling and data traffic on wireless networks, announced that Mike Ward has joined its executive team as senior vice president of worldwide sales and field operations. He reports to Ross Bott, SEVEN’s president and chief executive officer.
