Verizon Wireless customers will soon be able to start charging purchases from Google Play to their monthly bill.

Google said late last week that the direct carrier billing option would roll out to Verizon subscribers "over the next couple of weeks."

Up to $25 in charges from Google Play can be applied to Verizon accounts each month. The service is not limited to Android apps, and can be used to purchase any digital content offered on Google Play, such as music, movies and e-books.

AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile USA began supporting direct carrier billing on Google Play in May, and each offered the payment method when the app store was called Android Market.

Direct carrier billing is more seamless than credit card payments, making it easier for customers to make purchases from app stores. For security reasons, the service is not available on Wi-Fi, and customers can only place charges to their wireless bill when they are on a cellular connection.
