MasterCard announced PayPass Wallet Services, a new global offering for banks, merchants and partners designed to make it faster and easier for their customers to make purchases in stores or online by allowing them to securely pay with a click of the mouse, touch of the tablet screen or tap of the smartphone. American Airlines and Barnes & Noble will be among the first merchant partners to incorporate the PayPass Online checkout button on their websites, and American will integrate PayPass Wallet into its mobile application.
Samsung’s first LTE-capable Windows Phone will launch with AT&T on May 20. The Focus 2 will be AT&T’s third LTE device running on Windows Phone. It comes equipped with an 4-inch Super AMOLED display and front- and rear- facing cameras. The device costs about $50 with new two-year contract.
Sprint is now the first North American operator to be a member of the Tizen Association. The Tizen operating system was spawned out of Nokia and Intel’s former MeeGo project and also uses Samsung’s Linux-based platform. Other Tizen Association members include NTT DoCoMo, Orange, SK Telecom, Telefonica and Vodafone.
Gogo is buying LiveTV’s Airfone business, a deal that will give it 1 MHz of spectrum to supplement its existing 3 MHz license. The additional airwaves will be used for its Air-to-Ground network, which provides on-board Internet service for aircraft in the United States. The transaction is expected to close later this year pending approval from the FCC.
Testing specialist Ixia is buying Anue Systems for about $145 million, subject to an adjustment based on the amount of Anue’s net working capital at closing. The acquisition is expected to close during the second quarter. Anue develops technology that allows operators to better monitor network performance.
Accedian Networks says it has shipped more than 100,000 network demarcation units. The milestone was reached three times faster than the time it took to reach its first 50,000 units, President and CEO Patrick Ostiguy said in a statement.
