Sprint says it will play a central role in the wireless future of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Department of Transportation (DOT) with a new multiyear wireless contract valued at more than $36 million. The agreement will provide wireless services to the FAA and DOT for up to five years and includes voice, mobile broadband and mobile computing services.

• Separately, Sprint is working with AirWalk Communications to add AirWalk's enterprise femtocell to Sprint's in-building solutions product portfolio. The product branded Sprint AIRAVE Pro Connect is available now for Sprint's Custom Network Solutions customers to increase coverage and capacity indoors.

IBM is unveiling a new service to help businesses secure mobile devices that access corporate data. The new IBM Hosted Mobile Device Security Management service includes a security application for smartphones and tablets, along with managed services including policy management and user compliance monitoring.

Cincinnati Bell launched two new 4G touch-screen BlackBerry smartphones, the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and BlackBerry Torch 9860. The Bold 9900 goes for $299.99 and the Torch 9860 for $199.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate with a two-year service agreement.

Mobile Posse is offering a new owner insights research program for carriers and device makers. The New Handset Owner Research Program generates responses from more than 100,000 new handset users who have had their phone less than 48 hours. Executed monthly, the program covers more than 100 different devices by 10 OEMs across four carriers.

• Superphones will be the world's fastest growing sub-category of wireless handsets this year, according to Strategy Analytics. Global superphone sales will grow 200 percent in 2011, driven by popular models such as the Samsung Galaxy S2.
