Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile USA are each launching a Deployed Military Program. Effective Nov. 11, the Sprint no-contract brands will allow service men and women to keep their accounts and phone numbers intact while deployed overseas. Sprint has had a similar program in place for its postpaid customers since 2003.

Qualcomm is collaborating with the U.K. government and the Mayor of London's office and Transport for London to deliver a Wireless Electric Vehicle Charging (WEVC) trial. The pre-commercial trial is expected to start in early 2012 and will involve as many as 50 electric vehicles.

Jumptap released its Wave Two in an ongoing proprietary research series Understanding MobileAudience. Based on data from comScore, the research shows tablet owners are almost as likely as PC and laptop owners to use their tablet device to make purchases. Sixty-three percent of tablet owners make purchases using their tablet device as opposed to the 83 percent of PC owners who do the same. The top three products and services that are bought using mobile devices are event tickets, daily deals from sites like Groupon and Living Social, and apparel.

Adaptive Mobile says 75 percent of the public may be giving away their physical location when downloading smartphone applications. According to AdaptiveMobile's third Global Security Insights in Mobile report, polling 1,024 consumers, 69 percent of smartphone users are adamant that such privacy breaches are unacceptable, yet three-quarters fail to read the terms and conditions, which include access to data such as their physical location.

Pinger updated its Pinger Textfree with Voice app for iOS platforms, now optimized for the iOS 5 operating system. Users can watch videos on their iPod touch or iPhone to get free minutes to call friends and family. Pinger also says it now supports sending free texts to and from any mobile phone number in 29 countries.

Spirit DSP announced that Huawei Technologies has extended its license with Spirit DSP for wideband mobile VoIP (voice over IP) and video calling.

Vringo reached an agreement with ZTE Corporation to preload Vringo's Facetones application on Android handsets manufactured by ZTE. The handsets will be sold via mobile phone operators and through various OEM contracts to brand name handset makers.

InMobi appointed Lee Blyth as head of sales based in its London office. Lee joins InMobi after five years as Microsoft's U.K. mobile advertising lead.
