VIA Technologies, a Taipei-based semiconductor provider, today announced it has filed a patent infringement complaint against Apple with the International Trade Commission (ITC) and the U.S. District Court of Delaware. VIA alleges Apple's iPhone, iPad, iPod and Apple TV product lines and associated software infringe upon three of VIA's patents.

VIA is seeking a jury trial, as well as an order for Apple to stop selling the infringing products in the United States.

Apple declined to comment on the matter.

"VIA has built up an extensive IP portfolio consisting of over 5,000 patents as a result of significant investments in world class technology research and development," said Wenchi Chen, CEO, VIA Technologies, in a statement. "We are determined to protect our interests and the interests of our stockholders when our patents are infringed upon."

The patents at issue — U.S. Patent Nos. 6253312, 6253311 and 6754810 — cover microprocessor functionality featured in Apple iPhone, iPad, iPod and Apple TV devices.
