Uncle Sam wants your app ideas. The USA.gov website is asking the common citizen for suggestions on what types of apps the government should develop.
The USA.gov mobile apps gallery already has more than 50 free apps and mobile web sites from across government that it says can "help make life easier." For instance, the government offers an app to find out how long the security line is at the airport or to see if your child's new toy has been recalled.
While many of the comments currently posted are obviously humorous jabs at the bureaucrats in Washington—one user suggests a "house arrest" ankle-band for representatives—many are serious suggestions.
One commenter suggested an app that helps to pay off the deficit directly. "Works like any other donation app. The money is guaranteed to be used towards the deficit. After your gift you get a receipt that can then be used as a deduction on that year's taxes for twice the amount donated," wrote Doug March.
Scott Horvath, who identified himself as being with the U.S. Geological Survey, suggested an app that would make all of a person's government related information available in one place. "I want to be able to access my DMV information, my tax refund status, my congressional representatives and their contact information, social security benefits, my federal employee benefits information, etc," Horvath wrote.
Citizens can post their suggestions over "the next few weeks" here. The deadline to submit ideas is Sept. 15.
