Motorola Announces Availability for Xoom Wi-Fi Edition
Motorola Mobility Holdings today announced the upcoming availability for the Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi edition on March 27. The forthcoming Android tablet will be available for $599 from national retailers, including Amazon.com, Best Buy, Costco, RadioShack, Sam's Club, Staples and Walmart.
In addition, the Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi will be available to commercial IT channels and regional retailers through a distribution agreement with Synnex Corporation, and regional carriers through Brightpoint.
The Motorola Xoom runs the Android 3.0 (Honeycomb), which is optimized for tablets. The Xoom also features a 10.1-inch touchscreen, 1 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, front- and rear-facing cameras and 32 GB of memory.
Motorola has announced a series of global developer events in 11 cities across North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia to facilitate the development of applications for Android-based tablets and devices. The first of these events was hosted in San Francisco on March 1 and reportedly had more than 665 developers in attendance.
A 3G version (4G upgradeable) of the Xoom is currently available from Verizon Wireless for $599 with a two-year contract. Also, in the United Kingdom, a non-contract 3G-enabled Xoom is available through Carphone Warehouse for $964.
