The Salvation Army Santas will be ringing their little bells on your mobile this holiday season, with a new mobile giving app from Didmo. The "Daily Cup" app is available today exclusively on the GetJar mobile app store.

The Daily Cup app features a blog feed, regularly updated with news not commonly found on most other media about donations at work, globally, via The Salvation Army. In addition, the app highlights important information on social justice including sobering statistics and content on human trafficking, hunger, homelessness, disaster and HIV/AIDS, to name a few.

Participation among those who download is encouraged via a feedback form for volunteer inquiries and donation options including a special "Donate $10 now" button.

GetJar CEO Ilja Laurs likens his company's work with the Salvation Army to a lawyer's pro bono work. "We thought that it was important to show some support for an app that wasn't some commercial success but one that promotes social work and maybe one that doesn't get enough attention," Laurs says.

Apps have been realized as powerful tools for reaching people and soliciting help on any number of issues, from political to social causes, he adds.

"The consumer perceives apps as just things like Angry Birds, but that's a very incomplete picture of apps. We just decided to make a big splash with this Salvation Army application, which we believe is a brilliant attempt to combine the apps space with existing social media," Laurs says.

GetJar will be putting all of its resources behind the app, giving it prime real estate on the company's website and making customers aware that it's available for download. "This is our kind of end-of-the-year giving initiative, and we don't think anyone else is doing anything like this."
