Apple says it has a fix for a security flaw in its mobile browser that allows hackers to insert malicious code into a PDF document and then lure users to a website where their device will open the document.

According to a statement from the company, Apple is aware of the issue and has already developed a fix that will be available to customers in an upcoming software update.

The security flaw was found earlier this week and appears to affect those devices running iOS, Apple's latest version of its mobile operating system. Specifically, the flaw appears to affect iPhones using iOS versions 3.1.2-4.0.1., iPads using iOS 3.2-3.2.1 and iPod Touch using iOS 3.1.2.-4.0.

The German government Thursday went so far as to publish a warning about the security problems, saying iOS has "two critical weak points for which no patch exists... This allows potential attackers access to the complete system, including administrator rights."

The announcement was made through the Federal Office for Information Security and warned users not to open PDF files from unknown sources or websites on their mobile devices.
