The latest version of Google's Android operating system is on its way, and rumors today put tethering in its list of features. Judging by the statue of a frozen yogurt now on display outside Google's Mountain View, Calif., headquarters, "Froyo" should be coming sooner rather than later. The frozen yogurt stands alongside past OS icons, Eclair, Donut and Cupcake.

According to leaked screenshots released by TechCrunch, the new version of the OS will enable wired and wireless 3G tethering, should the carrier choose to support such functionality. Tethering describes the ability for a smartphone to enable other devices –such as laptops, other phones and gaming units – to share a 3G connection.

Other rumors claim that Froyo will be multiple times faster than the current version and will support Flash. Many expect Froyo to surface next week at Google's annual I/O Developer Conference.
