Motorola, Opticon settle patent disputes
Motorola Inc. said Friday that it has settled patent disputes with OPTO Electronics Co. of Japan, parent of the Opticon brand of barcode scanners.
Schaumburg-based Motorola, whose Symbol division makes barcode scanners, said the companies would now cross-license patents on such technology. Under the deal, Opticon will pay royalties for the right to use Motorola patents covering scanning and mobile computing. The companies didn't reveal specific terms of the deal.
