Internet search giant Yahoo! today launched two new applications for iPhone and iPod touch. On this, the opening day of the CTIA Wireless conference in Las Vegas, Yahoo! continues its attention to mobile with Sketch-a-Search and Yahoo! Search.

Yahoo! Sketch-a-Search allows users to draw a boundary on their phone's map to discover local businesses within that location. The app is initially available for restaurant searches in the United States and will launch additional local categories on an ongoing basis.

More specifically, users can draw a circle, line or any shape to get a bird's eye view of what's nearby in a specific area or on a specific street. The app is location aware and defaults to a person's current location.

Meanwhile, the company announced today that it has created another app designed solely for search on the iPhone. Yahoo! Search for iPhone includes integrated voice search, shake to clear and intelligent search history. The new app is available in 22 markets across North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia and will continue to roll out to additional locations.
