No one can accuse Google of not adequately addressing the mobile segment in recent months. From the purchase of AdMob and the release of Nexus One to yesterday's unveiling of Buzz, a desktop/mobile social networking service, Google has been aggressively concentrated on making its presence known in wireless.

Buzz is being called a direct competitor to other popular social networking services like Twitter and Facebook. The service leverages users Gmail contacts as a way of creating a Facebook-like news feed, where users can share and post comments, pictures, videos and Web content.

When paired with other Google service such as Google Docs, Google Voice and Gmail, the suite offers a range of possibilities for collaboration and networking. Buzz also allows users to link their Twitter, Flickr, Picassa and Blogs to their Buzz account.

Even with integration of a big-time social networking site like Twitter and a device-agnostic mobile component that runs in Web-based or native app form, initial reviews of the service are saying behemoths like Facebook are too well established for Buzz to draw a real community of loyal users.
