CTIA President and CEO Steve Largent said in a statement that McDowell has clearly demonstrated his understanding and knowledge of the complexities of telecom policy and unique attributes of the wireless industry.

Acting Chairman Michael Copps said McDowell has done an “outstanding job” in helping the commission deploy an extensive DTV call center operation, traveling near and far to help consumers prepare. FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein also issued a statement praising his colleague.

Susanne Guyer, Verizon senior vice president of federal regulatory affairs, put out a statement saying McDowell has shown a deep understanding of the industry and the role that market incentives play in stimulating both wireline and wireless broadband deployment.

Besides McDowell, the Senate still needs to confirm the president’s nomination of Julius Genachowski as the FCC chairman, along with another seat for a Republican.
