Alvarion’s network hardware will be used in Go Mobile's WiMAX deployment in Malta, the companies said this week.
The mobile WiMAX network will run on a 3.5 GHz frequency band to the island’s residents. Rollout will begin in the next few weeks including services for high-speed Internet, video, television and gaming, officials said. Italian technology manufacturer SIAE Microlettronica will help with the integration.
“We chose Alvarion because it was the one vendor to answer to all our demands, enabling us to guarantee nationwide coverage," said Go Chief Mobile Operations Officer Norbert Prihoda. The company's network is required by the Malta Communication Authority to provide 99% nationwide coverage by October 2009.
