DiVitas Networks is boasting a customer win via Sawtel, a Hartford, Conn.-based VoIP carrier that sells connectivity solutions to institutions and businesses in emerging markets. DiVitas today announced that Sawtel is using DiVitas as a component in its universal communications offering.
The nice part about DiVitas’ solution is not only does it work, but it’s affordable, according to Sawtel Chief Technology Officer Eric Asare. Sawtel conducted research for almost two years, evaluating various products, but wasn’t satisfied until it found DiVitas’ solution, which has been deployed in twin towers where doctors, lawyers and other professionals have offices in Hartford.
Asare demonstrated the phone system by walking out of the building and walking back in – there was no lag time when the system moved from Wi-Fi to cellular and back to Wi-Fi.
The DiVitas solution “uses so little bandwidth that it doesn’t kill you,” he said. “The long and short of it is, it’s a really good product. They’re going in the right direction where they’re taking the technology.” It’s the kind of thing that makes it possible for companies like Sawtel to compete against incumbents, he added. He expects Sawtel customers will see at least a 65% savings on all the calls they make because they’ll be using Wi-Fi instead of cellular.
The biggest event at DiVitas the past 10 month has been taking the product from beta to the commercial product stage – not an easy feat, according to DiVitas President and CEO Vivek Khuller. “There are so many alternatives available for people, and the bar is moving higher and higher every day,” he said. But the company signed up close to 50 paying customer trials within six months of releasing the product.
The main goal is the product must be easy to use for the end-user, who doesn’t want to read a manual to figure it out, he said. It also has to be easy to install and work flawlessly with existing infrastructure.
