Airvana this week is announcing third-party upgrades for its femtocell technology.

The company’s CDMA femtocell hardware will soon support IMS networks from Alcatel-Lucent, both companies said today.  The integration was originally tested at the CTIA show in April.

“Right now, this is a development agreement, not a supply agreement,” Alcatel spokesman Kurt Steinert explained.  He declined to say if the deal contains a financial aspect, but the technology integration is non-exclusive for both companies, he said.

It’s not yet determined which company, or both, will sell the final product.  Nor is it clear when the integrated hardware will be finished and ready for sales, he said.

Airvana also is expanding the integration of its femtocells with telecommunications management servers and will announce details this week.
