The femtocell market promises to be a huge moneymaker once it is ignited. In the meantime, manufacturers are working with carriers to deliver RFPs for equipment and perform well in trials. In evaluating current players, ABI Research has highlighted the market leaders. UbiquiSys, Alcatel-Lucent and ip.access claimed the top three spots in the latest evaluation of worldwide femtocell box vendors.

According to Stuart Carlaw, ABI vice president and research director,  major players such as Cisco, Motorola, NEC and Nokia aren’t identified in ABI’s matrix because they are positioning themselves as complete solution providers and have chosen not to produce their own products but to partner instead with dedicated box vendors.
