DukeNet Buys 115 Tower Sites

DukeNet Communication Services (DNCS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Duke Energy Corporation, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire 115 wireless communication towers from Abilene, Texas-based Vangard Wireless. The 115 wireless communication tower sites are strategically located within the Duke Energy's franchised utility territory in Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio and South Carolina, and in the adjacent states of Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

As part of the definitive agreement between DNCS and Vangard, DNCS has the right to immediately market the sites being acquired. A complete list of the tower sites is in the accompanying attachment. Financial details regarding the acquisition were not disclosed. DNCS and Vangard expect to close on approximately 75% of the sites early in second quarter 2008, with additional closings throughout the remainder of the year.
