Samsung Telecommunications America inked a deal with Alltel to provide a suite of handsets. Terms of the agreement were kept under wraps.
The first product to hit the market as a result of the new partnership will be the Samsung SCH-n330, which Alltel plans to offer for $69.99 with a signed 2-year service contract. The n330 features Immersion's VibeTonz technology, which enables handset makers and content developers to incorporate touch sensations into mobile phones.
The VibeTonz System makes it possible for a phone to vibrate to various music tones, which correlates well to another segment of the Samsung/Alltel deal to sponsor concerts. The first concert promotion that will tie the companies together will be the upcoming Simple Plan tour. Alltel customers who purchase the n330 in markets where the band plans to play will receive two free tickets to the concert in their city.
Alltel and Samsung also will enable customers to download ringtones and screensavers featuring musical artists on a section of Samsung's Website dedicated to Alltel customers.
Yesterday, Samsung unveiled an MP3 music phone using Verizon Wireless' network. The SCH- a950 supports Verizon's V CAST multimedia broadband service, which includes video streaming services, and sports a 1.3 megapixel digital camera.
