Sprint Nextel is looking to enhance its wireless TV service offering with the addition of live TV content. Sprint TV Live features content from a host of different television stations, including FOX News Channel and ABC.

New content for the service consists of continuous broadcast TV from a variety of sources, such as  FOX Sports, NFL Network, Discovery, Discovery Kids, Discovery en Espanol, Comedy Time, The Learning Channel, The Weather Channel, CNET, California Music Channel (CMC), CMC Beat and CSPN, among others.

The live TV service streams up to 15 frames per second, according to Sprint.

Sprint is offering the live content on Channel 9 for $9.99 per month. The carrier's service is currently supported on a selection of multimedia handsets, with eight new models available from Sanyo, Samsung and LG Electronics being introduced in the last year.

The MobiTV-powered Sprint TV was first launched in spring 2003 and currently consists of 31 different channels. Sprint was the first U.S. carrier to offer MobiTV's wireless TV service.

Earlier this month, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences awarded Sprint and  MobiTV the Emmy Engineering Award for Outstanding Achievement in Engineering Development for the companies' efforts to put live mobile television in the hands of consumers.
