CallWave is officially launching its VoIP-enhanced cell phone and an accompanying service to the U.S. market.

The no-contract, pay-as-you-go service links with CallWave's existing VoIP services.

CallWave unveiled the service in June. The $3.95 a month subscription fee includes the company's Follow Me Home feature, which allows cell phone calls to be forwarded to a designated fixed landline.

The company's Mobile Call Screening, which provides real-time access to voice mail messages, and Mobile Call Transfer, which enables users to transfer a live wireless call to a landline, services also are included as part of the overall Mobile Prepaid service.

"The real power of VoIP is in value-added services like screening all your cellular calls and voice messages on your desktop PC," says CallWave's President and CEO David Hofstatter. "VoIP also enables new handset features like pressing '1' to pick up a screened call or '2' to move that call to your landline," he says.

To entice customers to try the phone and the service, CallWave is offering a free phone to the first 1,000 customers who sign up. This group of customers also will receive 60 minutes of free airtime.
