Handspring
today shows off its new Treo line of devices. The new gadgets combine a GSM
mobile phone with Palm-powered handheld organizer.
The $399 Treo 180 features a miniaturized keyboard with Web
access as well as 16 MB of memory, and will be available to consumers in early
2002 -- well after the fourth-quarter holiday shopping season.
The $599 Treo 270 version of the device will feature a color
screen and will roll out in mid 2002, the company said. The devices weigh about
5.4 ounces and measure 4.3' x 2.7' x 0.7 inches.
''People will appreciate having this much power in a device
that fits easily into your pocket,'' said Jeff Hawkins, founder of Handspring
Inc.
