MetroPCS Lands in NYC, Boston
MetroPCS announced that its flat-rate unlimited wireless services, with no signed contract, will now be available in the greater New York City and Boston areas.
Analysts believe the move will position the Dallas-based company to compete nationally with larger entities like AT&T and Verizon Wireless.
Basic plans start at around $30 per month, with unlimited long distance service to the continental United States and Puerto Rico starting at $35 per month. The first month of service is free with the purchase of a phone and there is no activation fee.
Flat-rate, no-contract plans have experienced a boom recently as consumers look to take control of their monthly expenses amid a recession. Companies like Leap Wireless International/Cricket, Boost Mobile and T-Mobile USA also offer flat-rate, no-contract plans.
Boost recently unveiled its $50 per month unlimited plan, which includes unlimited talk, data, text and Boost’s walkie-talkie service.
