Streaming mobile video has become an increasingly popular consumer service. As with voice and traditional data applications, mobile video consumers will demand a high quality of experience from these services. Chromatic, the Metrico Wireless streaming video performance system, addresses the challenging task of quantifying and benchmarking mobile video performance.
The objective of this study was to detect and quantify mobile video performance differences among three devices from different manufacturers, as well as different wireless carriers. Video quality, audio quality, impaired frames and frozen frames were analyzed using Chromatic. Differences in streaming video quality were identified among the test subjects. As a portable solution that works on any handset, Chromatic provides a cost-effective method of measuring real-user experience of mobile video performance.
