News Briefs for December 19, 2007

WirelessWeek - December 19, 2007

3 UK and T-Mobile UK have agreed to combine their 3G access networks in a deal which they say will lead to almost complete population coverage for 3G services across Britain by the end of 2008, including significant improvements to dense urban in-building coverage in 2009. The agreement includes the mobile masts and infrastructure that connects to each operator's separate core network, but each carrier's core network and T-Mobile's 2G network will not be shared. Both parties will retain responsibility for the delivery of services to their respective customers and use their own frequency spectrum.

Tecore Networks, a provider of multitechnology mobile networks for emerging operators and rapid deployments, has announced that its portfolio of core and radio access network products is capable of operation in the 700 MHz frequency band.  The software-defined core platform bridges networks from legacy TDM through next-generation IMS, implementing an unprecedented any-to-any connectivity model to support GSM, CDMA, GPRS/EDGE, 1xRTT, EV-DO, Wi-Fi and WiMAX technologies from a common baseline.

Magmic Games and IG Fun, the publishing arm of Indiagames, India's top online and mobile gaming company, have announced a partnership that will soon make several popular IG Fun mobile titles available to smartphone users. Under the terms of the agreement, Magmic obtains the exclusive, worldwide rights to publish several popular IG Fun mobile titles for play on BlackBerry and Windows Mobile devices. The titles will be marketed directly to consumers at Magmic's BlackBerry direct-to-consumer portal as well as through Magmic's carrier and third-party distribution partners. The first IG Fun titles Magmic intends to publish for smartphones include the martial arts fighting game Bruce Lee - Iron Fist and the soon-to-be-released NBC's The Office Games, based on the popular TV sitcom. Both titles are expected to be launched in the first quarter, 2008.

RadioFrame Networks, a provider of femtocell and picocell radio access solutions, announced it has signed a contract with Nokia Siemens Network for co-operation on Nokia Siemens Networks' 3G Femto Home Access. Under the terms of the agreement, RadioFrame Networks will provide its OmniRadio femtocell solutions, which conform to Nokia Siemens Networks' open architecture. RadioFrame will deliver its femtocell base stations directly to operators, while Nokia Siemens Networks will deliver its Femto Gateway, as well as required services.

Tektronix has enhanced its RF Scout Interference Hunter tool to include a TD-SCDMA scanner to support the emerging standard currently begin deployed in China. The scanner, when combined with the RF Scout capabilities, offers network operators a 1-box RF field optimization solution, enabling them to improve the RF network performance with the ability to check and troubleshoot coverage and interference issues on TD-SCDMA networks.

SinglePoint, a mobile media interactivity expert, announced it processed 35 million interactive TV transactions initiated by mobile text message users on the AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless in the third quarter of 2007.
